After removing the tool box cover, The negative (-) cable screw can be accessed and the cable end taped or removed from possibily retouching the battery post.Then after removing the retaining plate described above, you can safely and without sparks gently tip the battery in its case and remove the positive (+) connection. Be sure to leave the drain tube in pace and disconnect it at the battery so you do not have to reroute it back down through the bike. If you have a one amp charger and want to charge in place, you can access the positive wire in the fuse(s) holder in the black rubber cover just under the seat area. Seat has to be off. Negative lead for the carger can go on a clean unpainted bolt on the endine or frame. You haven't said what year it is or how old the battery is. If it is more than a year old (battery) I would suggest pulling the battery and checking the fluid levels and adding distilled water only as needed to bring it to the full mark in each cell before charging. .
